Warren Buffett Archive

The Definitive Collection of All Things Buffett

OBJECTIVE

The Story Behind the Project

The Warren Buffett Archive is the world’s largest video collection of Warren Buffett speaking about business, investing, money and life.

The exclusive content, which is built around 24 years of Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder Meeting footage, as well as CNBC interviews, curated short-form video collections and more, is now available to the public for the first time ever.

We utilized the design system for CNBC.com, to create a fully responsive, custom mini-site with its own unique look and feel, built with the same component library.

Beginning with an audit of both the existing Buffett content in addition to the 122 hours of recordings that CNBC digitally curated, extensive research was conducted to determine the varied audience, what their user journeys might be, how to search for and surface key content, and ultimately what elements could be shared from the foundational design system and what needed to be added to the system.

Again our in-house team worked with the brilliant and talented designers at Code & Theory to deliver an elegant and fitting digital home for this exclusive content.

DEFINING DESIGN

Investing in a System Pays Off

The Warren Buffett Archive was the first of three sites which would leverage the foundational design system behind CNBC.com, repurposing components and templates but giving them a distinct visual look and feel.

The site needed to convey a sense of authority and yet also be welcoming, accessible, and useful; capturing the affable spirit and intellectual prowess and wisdom of this iconic individual.

Coincidentally, the primary color palette reflects the decor of the Berkshire Hathaway offices in Omaha. The base is a monochromatic scale of grays which established a strong foundation for both video and textual content. A pair of dark wine reds as the secondary and a subtle gold accent evokes a feeling of academia and rich history.

With reusability in mind, the two CNBC typefaces were flipped, making the decorative, serif font "Lyon" the primary, while "Proxima Nova" serves as its utilitarian partner.

RESULTS

The Ultimate Buffett Resource

The result is a comprehensive archive of content, built around 24 years of video footage from Shareholder Meetings, accompanied by interactive transcripts, and powered by deep-linking search functionality. The site features a next-generation responsive dockable video player with enhanced load speed and variable speed playback.

In addition to the exclusive Shareholder Meetings, there's an archive of all CNBC interviews, curated short-form video collections that capture Warren's thoughts on specific topics and industries, a portfolio tracker, an extensive visual timeline of his life, and much more.
